The Internet Channel features a web browser made by Opera Software, which allows users to surf the world wide web. This browser can be used to access web sites, perform web searches, etc. A broadband internet connection is required.
- The Internet Channel supports http and https. It is not compatible with other types of protocols, such as ftp, mailto, etc.
- USB keyboard support is only available for version 9.30. Visit the Wii Channels section of the Wii Shop Channel to obtain the latest version.
- The Internet Channel is compatible with Flash, up to version 8. It is compatible with all earlier versions, but versions higher than 8 will not be compatible. There is currently no way to download and install higher versions of the Flash Player to the Wii console.
- Access to the Internet Channel can be restricted through the Wii's Parental Controls. If the controls are enabled, a PIN must be entered before the Internet Channel can be accessed.
- When entering website address, you do not need to type in 'http://'; however, websites that begin with 'https://' will need to be entered in full.
- The Classic Controller, Nintendo GameCube Controller, and Nunchuk are not used with the Internet Channel. In addition, only one Wii Remote will work with the Internet Channel at a time.
- Many types of video playback, such as QuickTime (.avi) and Windows Media Video (.wmv) are not compatible with the Opera Browser and will not play.
