Another such extinguisher that is no longer in production is the pump extinguisher, created by the Pyrene Manufacturing Co. In 1905, whose chemical reactions created a deadly gas byproduct. It wasn't until the mid-20 th century that the oxygen-depleting fire extinguishers were developed, and these are often used today. Nov 02, 2017 The model number is printed on the fire extinguisher label. For units produced in 2007 and beyond, the date of manufacture is a 10-digit date code printed on the side of the cylinder, near the bottom.
Here's a theory for 'ya:I've noticed that the early (one patent) Pyrene WW2 Heavy Vehicle Type decal-type FE I have has an 'S' prefixed serial/lot(?) number.
Two of the later brass tag (2 patent) H-V-Ts I have show

I'm wondering if the prefix indicates the year: S=1943, T=1944, U=1945 etc. This seems to correspond to the patent references. Two patents were effective in 1944, therefore one patent reference is certainly pre-'44. A decal-type military painted FE is certainly WW2 -- my guess beginning c.1942. I had a decal type two-patent HVT that went away recently. If it was a 'T' prefix I'd be willing to bet that it's more than coincidence. Further, I'm thinking that all brass tag, two-patent HVTs will be 'U' or higher prefixed (late/post war).Anyone have Pyrene HVT FEs they wish to check against this?
